Glyph design: drawing the first capital letters ( .Glyph design: O-derived letters ( C G Q ).Glyph design: I-derived letters ( H J ) Check Missing Extrema Both PostScript and TrueType would like you to have points at the maxima and minima (the extrema) of a path. When I use it in Adobe (looking at illustrator right now) when I hit the space bar, a rectangular cliff pops up between letters. But the font still generates if I keep the em size at 1000. Glyph design: box capital letters ( E L F T ) I also get 'self intersecting' and 'missing points of extrema' errors.Glyph design: V-derived letters ( X W Y A ).That’s because those curve points are very near horizontal or vertical. But the extremas are very close to the existing on-curve points (filled circles). But that would make a counter with eight bézier points, which is a bit excessive and difficult to edit. You can see that the inner contour needs four extrema points, denoted by in fontforge with ⴲ points (you may need to enable View → Show → Extrema). Hello, FontForge reports a font Im working on as having a lot of missing points at extrema, so Im trying to find the right way out to fix this problem. Think of them as protective bumpers on your letters that keep your font from getting distorted by dumb renderers. Extremas are just extra points on the ends that help protect glyph outlines, since fonts undergo much more heavy-duty scaling and rasterizing than most other forms of vector art. ![]() also forestalls endless headaches with missing extrema points down the road. No vector illustration program requires extremas on its paths. The first thing we have to do is import the scan into the FontForge drawing. But the truth is, most renderers get along fine without any extremas. It also makes it easier to measure stems and set sidebearings, since you can measure distances between points instead of vague spots along a curve. Why is this a thing? Well apparently it helps with hinting, by letting the renderer know the bounding boxes of the glyph outline. The curve in the middle folds back on itself, so it needs to be split in two (right). ![]() The curve on the left is acceptable-it doesn’t change direction in the x or y axis. A handy (but not foolproof) way of checking this is looking to see if the curve fits into the rectangle determined by its endpoints (though an ‘s’ shaped curve can pass this test and still not be one-to-one). A bézier segment in a font shouldn’t change direction in either the x or the y direction-otherwise it should be split into two one-to-one segments. it has to pass both the horizontal and vertical line tests. Note: If your control points aren’t placed at the extremas, FontForge will point out the actual extrema with a sight icon (): You can then fix this by copying your current outline to another layer, then move the control points around so that it’s laid out properly otherwise the FontForge Validation tool will add the point at extremas automatically, at which point you can merge. Each bézier segment of a glyph’s outline (read: each segment between two points, not the entire glyph outline) must be a one-to-one function*-i.e. What soon follows is your simple stroll down cheesy slasher bodycounting mixed with obsessive stalker horror as Chucky do away more and more people (and animals) who it deem unfit to be Andy's friend or family, a complete contrast to our OG Chucky's modus wherein the voodoo practicing serial killing doll murders for the reason that he simply can. ![]() If you go to a Church with a, “Statement of Faith” or a, “What We Believe” article on their website, a Confession of Faith is sort of like that, but only more complete. Perhaps, they have some phobia against a clear statement of faith? Perhaps, they are afraid that God isn’t powerful enough to call, and keep His own? Maybe they fear people might be offended by the doctrines of the Faith? We do know from scripture, “For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” It would be humorous if it weren’t so sad. Of course their claim qualifies as all of the above. Many Churches say they don’t have a confession of faith, creeds, or doctrines. They would study, so they could defend their beliefs. They would study, so they could teach others. People would study from a Confession to give themselves a better understanding of what the Church believed. So we have books with all of their limitations, and assets. Especially when it comes to having a hard copy record that can’t be changed with an internet update. For some of us old fuddy-duddies, the appeal of the book has not been outshined by modern contenders. I know it seems silly, and antiquated in this day of smartphones, tablets, apps, and e-readers, but nonetheless it is true. You see, before the invention of the internet, mass media, and distribution, people had to read books, and other documents to learn things. When people speak of a Confession of Faith, they are talking about a Church document that apprises, in detail, the Essential Articles, or Doctrines of the Faith. If you are reading this review, and are not familiar with the subject matter, then you are here providentially to learn. If you are one of the many who is already familiar, bear with me for a moment. Parker has a director's eye for the ironies inherent in the beautiful Virginia mansion (actually filmed in Savannah) and the poverty of the servants' quarters, the empathy of Samuel's mother, Elizabeth (Penelope Ann Miller), and the growing intolerance of her son. In Birth, the progression to violence is slow, even as the ultimate violence comes on us. The owner becomes a symbol of the once proud South now reduced to exploiting human beings, in this case black slaves. In both cases, master might seem at times benign but not over the length of the film. As in 12 Years, Birth takes care to show the close relationship between slave and master, Samuel (Armie Hammer). The film graphically depicts the violence and is equally indulgent showing the growing love between Nate and her. It shows his daily humiliations and hardening in the face of unfettered violence, his growing reliance on the Bible for rebellion, and finally the brutal rape of his wife, Cherry (Aja Naomi King). Yet, Birth is strong in deeply exploring the hero's motivations for the rebellion he eventually foments in 1831. While both men are mercilessly whipped in the two films, 12 Years remains superior in its scope and complexity. But you can now relive that excruciating experience from the religious and moral perspective of a slave, Nat Turner (Nate Parker), in Nate Parker's realistic and dramatic The Birth of a Nation. The incident put fear in the heart of Southerners, ended the organized emancipation movement in that region, resulted in even harsher laws against enslaved people, and deepened the schism between slave-holders and free-soilers (an anti-slavery political party whose slogan was ‘free soil, free speech, free labor, and free men’) that would culminate in the Civil War."Anytime anyone is enslaved, or in any way deprived of his liberty, if that person is a human being, as far as I am concerned he is justified to resort to whatever methods necessary to bring about his liberty again." Malcolm X The antebellum South had not been kind to slaves, if you look only at the award-winning 12 Years a Slave, in which Solomon Northrup, an upstate New York free man, was sold into slavery. An insurrection was planned, aborted, and rescheduled for August 21,1831, when he and six others killed the Travis family, managed to secure arms and horses, and enlisted about 75 other enslaved people in a disorganized insurrection that resulted in the murder of an estimated 55 white people.Īfterwards, Turner hid nearby successfully for six weeks until his discovery, conviction, and hanging at Jerusalem, Virginia, along with 16 of his followers. Sold three times in his childhood and hired out to John Travis (1820s), he became a fiery preacher and leader of enslaved Africans on Benjamin Turner’s plantation and in his Southampton County neighborhood, claiming that he was chosen by God to lead them from bondage.ĭid you know? Fifty-six Black people accused of participating in Nat Turner's rebellion were executed, and more than 200 others were beaten by angry mobs or white militias.īelieving in signs and hearing divine voices, Turner was convinced by an eclipse of the sun (1831) that the time to rise up had come, and he enlisted the help of four other enslaved men in the area. ![]() Turner was born on the Virginia plantation of Benjamin Turner, who allowed him to be instructed in reading, writing, and religion. The rebellion also stiffened pro-slavery, anti-abolitionist convictions that persisted in that region until the American Civil War (1861–65). His action set off a massacre of up to 200 Black people and a new wave of oppressive legislation prohibiting the education, movement, and assembly of enslaved people. Nathanial “Nat” Turner (1800-1831) was an enslaved man who led a rebellion of enslaved people on August 21, 1831. |
